What the August heat actually means
Makkah in August reaches 43°C to 45°C in the day. Madinah is a degree or two cooler but still very hot. This is the main reason Umrah costs less at this time of year, and you should plan around it rather than be surprised by it.
What our pilgrims do:
- Pray Fajr, then do your Tawaf. The marble is cool before sunrise and the courtyard is bearable.
- Stay indoors between Dhuhr and Asr. Rest in the hotel. This is why a hotel close to the Haram matters more in August than at any other time.
- Go back out after Maghrib. Evenings are pleasant and the Haram is at its best.
- Drink Zamzam constantly. More than you think you need.
- Use the covered and air-conditioned areas. The lower floors and the basement of the Haram are cooled.
Who should think twice: families with babies, pilgrims over about 70, anyone with a heart or breathing condition, and anyone who struggles in heat. If that is you, look at December Umrah packages from the UK instead, when Makkah is around 30°C, or at Umrah packages 2027 for other times of year.
Who it suits: fit adults, teenagers, and families who are happy to work around the middle of the day. Thousands of British pilgrims go every August and manage it perfectly well.
